President's Message

Dr.Jayesh Barve

My Dear Automation Professionals:

It is great pleasure to connect again with you via this 2ndnewsletter as ISA Bangalore Section President for Jul-2019 to Jun-2020 term. I, the Executive Committee (EC) members, and our new Administrative officer have planned & started the ball rolling in last quarter with a good set of activities conducted and upcomingto strengthen ISA Bangalore section. Some activities are planned, and we are almost set to organize some unique ISA training programs being done 1st time in India. Have already started working hard to fulfilthem. ["First Few Steps Taken"!!!]

First, wish you and your family members greetings and the best wishes for the series of festivals - past Deepavali/Govardhan Puja/Karnataka Foundation Day/Christmas etc.; andupcoming New Year 2020/Makarsankranti-Pongal/ Mahashivratri/Ugadi--during outgoing and upcoming quarters![India - the Land of Festivals!!!]

Highlights of outgoing quarter (Oct-Dec 2019): Sticking to our plan of regular Techtalks across multiple topics of ISA & automation fraternity, we successfully conducted 4 Techtalks during this quarter Oct-Dec 2019. Highlight of this quarter was a successful organization of interesting & valuable professional Training - the4-day "Functional Safety Certification Program" in accordance with IEC 61508/61511 Standards during 4-7 Dec 2019. Total 18 participants from various OEMs/Customers/Consultants including ABB/LDRA/Honeywell/GE/Shell/JSW etc. underwent this certification training program and benefited. Also, as usual, a few of ISAB automation professionals supported as experts in several students' section programs e.g. Techtalk on Sensors by our Rajshekhar Uchil (who also accomplished his 25 years with ISA this quarter - received a certificate from ISA President) at GIT Belgaum Students Section. Also, Sukumaran, and Ravi B/Jasir of ISAB engaged as invited guests & subject-experts, delivered lectures respectively at NIT-Trichy and FISAT-Kochi institutes Students Sections.Another highlight & milestone for our section was 2019 ISA "Excellence in Technical Innovation" Award (Endowed by Honeywell UOP Company) by Dr Jayesh Barve (myself) for technical contributions in controls & optimization field. Was fortunate to be able to visit (am thankful to GE - my company - kindly permitting me to take time out participate in ISA ALC event along my work-related USA visit coincidently happened around the same time) and participate in ISA Award-gala ceremony in-person. This alsogave me an opportunity to also 1st time participate in ISA ALC (Annual Leadership Council) Meeting during 25-28 Oct-2019 at San Diego, USA. This was a happy moment for ISAB andpersonally for me to witness ALC sincere proceedings & meet many ISA leaders across the world -a rich &learning experience. Lastly - another highlight is successful organization of ICECON-2019, 3 days International Conference organized by our new students' section at NIT-Trichy. ISAB supported this event not only as a technical sponsor but also organized 1-day pre-conference tutorial/training on Cybersecurity by ISAB Cybersecurity Expert Mr AC Prashanth.["Ball Has Started Rolling Well"!!!]

Glimpses of upcoming Quarter (Jan-Mar2020): In addition to regular Techtalks including by some global leaders visiting India soon, we are working hard to line up an exciting unique, very valuable professional Training program, 5-days "ISA/IEC-62443 Cybersecurity Certification Training Program", attempted 1st time in India with the support of ISA D14/Pune. We encourage interested ISAB members (and automation professionals in your network) to benefit from this certification program, being offered 1st time in India at veryattractive, discounted fees (as compared to standard ISA list fees - thanks to ISA D14 and ISA Europe to help support make this possible). Besides, we will continue strong engagement and support to academia through technical co-sponsorship & program-support for various large National/International events like Mitsubishi cup (BMSCE), FDP (Faculty Development Program) at MSRIT followed by International Conference by VIT Vellore Students Section. We will keep announcing these programs in coming months. Keep watching ISAB website, emails, social media groups. ["Stay Tuned to Notch Up"!!!]

Sneak Peek in 2020 quarters: Wait for our flagship programs i.e. iACT-2020 & ISAB Symposium-2020 (most probably PharmaNext 2.0), Techtalks & Training programs on IIOT, Cyber-security, Controls & AI, etc. Also, await some new District-sectionengagement activitieslike India Automation Cup (in line with SAIT Automation Games), DLC etc. being planned by revitalized ISA District-14. Will share more as we sail along and in next (Jan-Mar2020) Newsletter edition.["Wait & Watch!!!"]
